Some of you may not be aware, but I have a new show online called Info-Tech where I take a look at cool gear for the film and television industry.

We're running our "RED series" now and showing off stuff for the RED One.

We took a look at Element's Hybrid and Mantis (With some cool new accessories for the Mantis)

Hope you enjoy:

Anyone know where to find part 2 and 3 of Info Tech's video series on the Birger or are those forthcoming? By the way, after watching their Mantis video, I'm completely sold!

Nice Jay,

Very informative.

You are right ET has really great customer service. Vivian just did me a huge favor this morning. I can't thank those guys enough for their awesome tools.

In particular the mount point for the EVF on the mantis is a direct and perfect response to comments made here on RedUser about their original handheld rig. I hope it makes them a mint.

Cheers,

Ian

User report: I LOVE the new smileys!! Gott try this one::head_explode:

Question. How long does it take to switch from Birger Canon Mount back to PL mount and then back again? Are most people just installing the Birger Canon Mount and then using Canon lenses exclusively or is it practical to switch back and forth on set or in the field.

Once you get the hang of it.. About 10min.. But I do NOT recommend switching mounts in the field.

You need a clean, quiet place... With scented candles, a little soft music, and whatever else you need to keep your hands from shaking!

Nice work Jay!

Nice work Jay!

We are really excited about Jay's work on the video. Loads of information and excellent production value in an entertaining package. We also love Jay's take on our Mantis logo. (you'll see it on some of our swag at NAB)

As ibloom pointed out, the alternate mounting for the EVF Mount came as a result of the discussion here on REDUSER. Can't wait to see what's next.

Great work on that video, Jay. I'm absolutely loving the Mantis!

hey shooter.. are you really sold?.. really?.. me'd appreciate to listen your opinion.. your free opinion.. btw.. how's your birger going?.. and your 5dmk2 vs red1 w/ canon mount lenses?

Jay, nice production value for such specific videos. I thank you! I watched all of them back to back.

BTW, you seem like a great guy to work with.

Best of luck and thanks for the videos.

Definitely sold on the Mantis after watching the video and understanding all of the complex engineering that went into the various adjustment points. At first, I thought it was too expensive compared to cheaper, more static solutions. The gimbal-like adjustment mechanism and v-mount on the shoulder pad and the various adjustment points on the arms/handles mean the difference between a comfortable, balanced center (where you want it) and having to adjust "your" body and arms uncomfortably to fit the solution. I do not own one because of recent shoulder surgery but would/will buy one if I need to have someone else shooting hand-held with my Red.

Haven't yet received my Birger. Was told it would arrive on Thursday but has not arrived yet. :(

5D2 is already getting a little annoying for me in terms of shooting video but love the still images with the L lenses. Wow!
