  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New German Primes: Price below 10.000 per set.

Yes, and 3 months for a repair and an average repair cost of $3000US dollars just to open it up to see whats wrong.

Master Primes are the perfect lens, put them on a projector and nobody can beat them. Sharp as a razor and Mechanics built by the gods for the gods.

Funny thing is though, alot of people do not rent them.

Not because of the price, but because of the actual look of the images that they produce.

Those lenses might be perfect, but they have no "soul".

P.S. I don't directly blame Jan, aka Laguun - he's under
NDA and probably would love to spill the beans.
 
If there are five or six companies involved in development and manufacture, probably a service call will require their combined involvement as well. One company will dismantle the housing, another will remove the aperture block and it will be send to another one to deal with the floating lens element and probably the re-assembly will have the same path in reverse. That will be fun.

this is getting ridiculous. A lot of us are in the market NOW! to buy lenses.. these mystery games are BS. get us info NOW.. or lose business.

Agreed. The stills that have been posted don't prove any quality advantages over still lenses. I think we're all getting tired of this thread.
 
I could not agree with both of you more. Red includes us in the program. They don't fuck with us like Laguun and his "consortium of developers".

I have never been so angry at a company , let alone a company that I didn't even know the name of.

If this is really the "best of the Germans" working together to make these 6 lenses they really need someone to smack them on the side of the head, because they are insulting our intelligence by dancing around like this.

I do not even care if these lenses actually turn out to be decent, they lost me as a customer forever.
 
So now you guys are where I am.. Like I said, I'm from MO... Show me.. Until I see them, they do not exist. Therefore I have nothing to be excited about.

I've seen RED's lenses.

We checked but we are unable to say due to the NDA. Sorry I had to. : )

Everyone else... relax. Info will be released as soon as it will be released, and if you have a better option then go for it. If you don't know if you should wait for these or pick up a set of Super Speeds or MPs, then you are on that boart already due to Red's Pro Primes anyway which are still an insane discount over either.

Insults won't get them to release info.
 
I totally see your poing and feel the same way, but it very well might be getting the more customers... otherwise they wouldn't do it. Who knows how many are holding off on other sets... and it's most likely more than the number of people that would actually not buy their stuff because of this sort of tactic.

Nothing is going to end this sort of thing... in the end the benefits outweigh the annoyance with feedback reaching the company before the designs are locked down.

It would be nice if there was a section for things like this, a work in progress type of section where all future products could have their main discussion threads.
 
Hey All,

the information (exact prices, service, warranty, manufacturers, focal lenghts in the set etc) will be released early april, with some luck this week. We arent the manufacturers - so thats not our decision to make. The betatest so far was big fun, resulted in many detail improvements and several new reduser fellows joining the team here in berlin for the shots, which would never have known about the test going on.

Once our NDAs are lifted (again, it seems before NAB), we will share all experiences we made, the pros and cons of the lenses etc. For the price etc however, that is up to the manufacturers to announce i suppose.

If we are allowed to, we will also arrange a hands on in Berlin with the betalenses, but it is fully possible that the manufacturers will insist that we wait until the final series is done for that.

stephen, rest assured, as with the red one camera, you wont be a member of the interested folks to be able or allowed to judge the quality of new optical instruments. This is not, and hasnt been, your interest.

but i think that you will be able to download red one footage soon.

and especially bad looking 2k footage (as the si:2ks recent academy award winning) stuff should at least be discussed -en detail- over at c.com (or other meanwhile completly irrelevant websites) for some more months.

The New German Prime lenses, however, well, you should be able to see them in the actuakl swiss commercials.#

i do appreciate anyones dumbness.

Hi Jan,

The SI2K is a fine little camera with a cumbersome handling of the recording unit. Pictures are nice and very different to that what Red is recording. The Camera I had in my hands was actually one of the two that shot "Slumdog Millionair".
