  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Here we go - AMC!!

Huh? I thought this started a long time ago?

I went on a tour of the AMC theater here in Toronto last summer. They had just received six Sony 4K projectors. They were actually quite pissed, because when Hancock came out - a Sony picture - It screened at a competing theater on film. Even though it was available in 4K.

This AMC theater had no 4K content to show. And they were feeling a little rooked by Sony.

Maybe this will change all of that?

Sony Pictures has announced it will make and release its pics in 4K. Warner Bros. has also been a strong advocate of the format.

Muahahaha!!!! Excellent!

What about future Offhollywood screening room projection screen?

Is it going to get Sony 4K projector or...?

The Sony 4K is not the right choice for DI. I'll post the specs of the theatre when it opens in August. Locking in the final details now. But we will have 35mm as well and we will do side-by-side projections with DCP (also will be offering full DCP mastering services) for QA.

Is that Sony 4K projector really 4K?

Heh.....

Well no, seriously. I still cannot figure out why IMAX is trying to cobble together dual-1080 projectors and call them "4K." Is there something wrong with the Sony 4K?

To me, it's a bad idea to invest heavily in 2K or 1080p projectors, when 4K is clearly the forthcoming gold standard for display and projection.

Barco DP-1200.

Some people would advise to get Barco DP-1200 2K Digital cinema projector for screens up to 12m (40ft) that could be nice option if your room is a medium-sized theater.

Do you mean that one by the Eaton Center, Dundas at Yonge??

Great news on deed Mark, very glad to see that this is back on a road map to completion.

When in Cali, I was seen some great deals been made with Sony, Barco and an other company, but the economy put a forced stop to everything, off course also the better pricing of the 4K projectors is good news, 30 to 50k is much better pricing, as I intend to take one to Italy for KETCHFRAME Studios there, and hope to have other Cinema follow.

Both the 5000 and 1000 lumens are just off the wall, and it is very hard to se anything else after viewing a film on it.

I for now have to be happy with my small Sony XRD 1080p :(

But asap as my house sales then will be buying up some more gear, and if there is any money left from the RED shopping spree, then the SOny 4k projector will be going to Italy :)

ciao

Now just hoping finishing systems in 4k become more affordable.
Hoping that Assimilate and Iridas jump into this and support it in the near future with 4xhdsdi capability.

For the time being and due to the awareness that 4k would being introduced largescale , I think they should already made some efforts and tell us something about their future plans, maby just like RED has done.

"Installation of the projectors begins second quarter 2009 and is skedded to be completed by the end of 2012."

But at least someone is paying attention.
That is great news.
