Hey guys, just had my 2nd red shoot. Shot to a red raid... I am capturing everything in FCP via the log and transfer (native). I played a couple clips and they are just cut off... randomly! I was like oh no was it me? I went back to the rd3 files and they are full, just in log and transfer when I dropped them into the area to convert, it got shortened...

Anybody encounter this?

if I can make a quick suggestion, open up the preview proxies, and see if the scrub head (in quicktime) is anywhere other than the beginning of the time. Also, check your log and transfer preview window (right side) and bring the scrub head back to the beginning. I had this issue on the first red shoot I was on, and getting this happening on set with my mac book pro (late 2007.) I found that doing the log and transfer method required that I home the playhead head in the log/transfer window to get the whole clip.

good luck,

-Patrick.

yeah. I got that exact same heart attack feeling. I think in my case it was a combo of my laptop acting up, and the scrub head not being at the front of the clip.

the other thing to keep in mind, is that the RED breaks the r3d files into 2GB chunks, so it could be that your machine is failing when it bridges two different r3d files. I had that happen a few times, again on the laptop, and with a second pass, letting the machine just work (not running anything else) it fixed itself.

This issue has come up again! I'm on my own machine now... spec'd very similar to the first problem... It is doing the exact same thing! Any explanations?

Wow, I bet this is the explanation for what I experienced also.

I used the Log and transfer for my first batch of dailies and then switched to REDRushes after that.

The Editor was editing a scene and one of the clips cut off in the middle of a scene. When I checked the R3D, the whole scene was there.

I re-transcoded through REDRushes and problem was solved.

If I could also suggest, I've just flipped my workflow to go
R3D Datamanager-Clipfinder (can compress as soon as the file gets copied)-FCP

works brilliantly, and I can work in 2k prores, with Luts... very nice workflow. I had RedRushes crashing constantly, and randomly, and Clipfinder is just rock solid. And free (you will feel the urge to donate after you use it a few times)

I've had the same issue with Log & Transfer - it would only take in the first minute of the shot then cut off. This affected some shots and not others with no pattern I could discern.

I have had the same issue with L & T. My solution was to mark in and out (start to finish) on the clips that were truncated.

I also look at the transferred clips in my FCP bin. If the time code is not continuous from clip to clip then I know that one of the shots got cut off. It's a hassle, but don't know any other way.
