  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Potomac, MD - Red Lightning Software LLC. today announced the immediate availability of HD Monitor Pro 1.6 with RED ONE DIGITAL CINEMA Camera support. HD Monitor Pro proves itself an indispensable tool for productions to view, record, log and manage live high definition video.

New features in HD Monitor Pro 1.6 include: Proxy Clip Recording; support for Red Lightning's New Wireless Bluetooth Remote to automate Proxy Clip Recording; Instant Proxy Clip syncing with RED ONE footage; Automatic intelligent indexing of the take field, and full size clip viewing.

Proxy Clip Recording allows the user to record shots untethered from the RED ONE camera. Proxy Clips act as placeholder clips for the actual footage recorded by the camera. A simple keystroke or the optional RLS Wireless Bluetooth Remote will start and stop the Proxy Clip Recording. The user will be able to annotate each proxy clip with a name, shot type, rating, notes, scene and take information. This allows the user to log each shot, on set, in real time, with accurate and relevant information while the details are fresh. Proxy Clips support our Real Time Markers, adding user-defined pre-named markers ("Action," "Cut," "Outtake," etc.) for quickly locating specific points in your footage when editing, significantly speeding up the editing process.

After copying the RED ONE camera footage to the Macintosh computer, it is a simple matter for HD Monitor Pro to automatically sync the Proxy Clips with the actual RED ONE clips. In an instant, hundreds of Proxy Clips will be accurately connected with their corresponding RED clips. Then, the user will be able to watch each clip, edit the logging information, add and remove Real Time Markers, and export all the clips and their associated notes to Final Cut Pro for instant editing. This eliminates the need to spend countless hours watching and logging footage and allows creating rough cuts while still on-set to help determine what shots might still be required to complete the scene.

To automate Proxy Clip Recording, Red Lightning Software is now offering the Red Lightning Software Wireless Bluetooth Remote. The RLS Wireless Bluetooth Remote will automatically start and stop Proxy Clip Recording when the RED ONE camera starts and stops recording, allowing accurate hands free Proxy Clip creation. The RLS Wireless Bluetooth Remote has a usable range of well over 40 feet, allowing Proxy Clip Recording from anywhere on set.

HD Monitor Pro will now automatically and intelligently index each shot's take numbering for accurate and hassle free annotation. Our intelligent shot take indexing will automatically keep track of all shots and allows the user to shoot new scenes and then return to a previous scene and the take indexing will pick up where it left off.

Hi Vigen,

The RLS wireless remote is to start and stop proxy clip recording in HD Monitor Pro. You do not need the remote to create Proxy clips, if someone is logging footage they can create the Proxy clips when the camera man calls "rolling" and the director calls "cut". It does not act as a wireless remote to start and stop the Red One camera.

Does that make sense?

So how are the proxy clips synced to the actual clips. If someone clicks to log a few seconds early or late, does it just "figure out" which clip is which? Is this workflow dependent upon both the camera and Mac being set to the exact same time within seconds? What exactly does the bluetooth remote add? Does it sense when the camera stops and starts recording? Sounds very interesting. Just recommended it to a rental client shooting a medium budget film next month.

Hi Michael,

The way we sync the files, there is plenty of room for starting and stopping the proxy clips in a reasonable time frame ( best to keep the error under 2 mins. ) to when the camera starts and stops.

While it is best to have the Camera and Mac's clock's matching ( within 20 mins of each other), as long as the relationship between the two clocks does not change, HD Monitor Pro will still accurately sync the clips.

The RLS wireless remote plugs into the RED ONE and sends a signal to HD Monitor Pro to create Proxy clips whenever the RED ONE is recording. This allows 1 person to run the camera and proxy clips will automatically be created for hassle free operation. Then after each take the camera person could type in notes for the clip just shot.

Both Ted Schilowitz ( RED ) and Mark Pederson ( Off Hollywood ) asked that we create the wireless remote to automate the proxy clip recording in HD Monitor Pro. They were both very excited to see the logging solution we had created and wanted a no fuss no muss way to create the proxy clips.
