  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi,

We tried to backup our newest project, and the QT reference file is smaller than the original files from the Red Drive. Original QT reference file is 64kb and the backup QT reference file is 32kb.

But the backup copies play perfectly with no problem though.
Any idea why the difference in size?

And is there anything that we should be concerned about?

Will it have an impact on the footage?
Our R3D files size remain the same though. Only the quick time reference files.

No, I agree with Fredrik. The backup drive's blocks are probably smaller resulting in a different file size. No impact on the data - just how it is stored on that particular drive.

Yes, for small files, they can't be smaller than the drive block size - and bigger drives have bigger block sizes.

Thanks. So I guess there is nothing to worry about.
Going to format the Red Drive for the shoot today :)

Mike, you may also notice the calculation in size between R3D files on a RED Drive (Fat32) and a Mac formatted drive (HFS+) is usually off by about a megabyte. This is because of differences in overhead between the two filesystems.

Also nothing to worry about ;)
