  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We received today 2 brand new 16GB Compact Flash, first test at 4K 16:9 Redcode36 25fps.
2 cards, 2 results:
First card, always same image, no camera movement and low details for the whole card in 4 clips to roll out: 01:11:37:15 minutes, 17440 frames, 14,1GB.
Second card, 2 different images really few movement and low details for the whole card in 3 clips to roll out: 01:10:51:21 minutes, 16313 frames, 14,1GB.

Is it normal with new CF firmware? It's 1.22GB/min but Redcode36 4K 16:9 was 1.88GB/min... anyone has same results?

It really depends on the subject you are shooting. I think Redcode36 means a maximum of 36MB per second for 4k 16x9 24 fps.

I know this figure but I never thought that it could go down as much as 20,77MB/sec!

When I switched from build 16 to
build 17, there were no changes : about 4min15, with camera moves, tiny details.....
when I installed the build 18, it has gone up to 5min30, with the same complicated moves, and tiny details. (redcode28)

I use the 8gb cards from red til the begining. You imagine how
cool it was to see that :)

I believe b18 has opened the redcode36, so there must have been something different in the compression.

Our test was with build 17 and our cameras works since June (Build 15) with 8GB CF, 16GB CF and RED Drives and I never saw something like this.
Our CF Reader/writer is upgraded and the only new thing is the CF firmware.
I'll do some more test tomorrow.

Did you try shooting the same thing with a RedDrive and then the CF card to see if there is a difference in the data rates?

Might just be that the scene you are shooting doesn't have a great deal of information in it and RedCode is being very efficient.

Sticking the camera in front of a swaying tree with branches/leaves cutting out light will give you a high detail scene which should increase that data rate, again test against a RedDrive.

Seems logic to me. Unless the image is not exactly same, datarate may vary a lot with efficient codecs.

How do you like Build 18 thus far??
Any new test results??

Some factors that effect Lossless compression data rates are the movement of the camera and differences in the picture...color,detail,levels.
