hi guys

I heard from several people that they are having problems with their battery mount not gripping properly and that there is apparently a new battery plate available ? Is that true and if so, will RED exchange those under warranty ?

thanks

In mid-January I had a battery plate with a frayed cable (that was always working fine) replaced with a new plate, by Red.
The new plate is terrible - the first bad one I've owned, and I've owned 5.
I'll be sending this new one back to Red, but, basically, I think in future I'll be buying another brand of battery plate, and fitting the Lemo- ended cable to it.
There are too many bad Red plates out there, and I worry that they can fry a camera. They definitely cause a lot of re-boots.

ohh so that's where that reboot issue comes from ???

i got my camera back yesterday from a rental and they said on the last day of shooting the camera rebooted several times. they also said the reddrive was quite noisy so i thought this might have been the cause.

You mean THAT Red Drive?

haha yeah. they said it was quite noisy, I havent had any problems with it and neither did they, no dropped frames or anything, they just said it made some clicking noises.

I got a 12V 500mAh power adaptor for it and i noticed the drive seems to get very hot. but it worked like a breeze so far.

get a 1.5 amp power supply quick. It's standard for external hard drives
I just got one at a Radio shack in NY.
Walk into a Dick Smith, Tandy, or Jaycar. I saw the thread recently where someone mentioned to you you need 1.5 amps. They were right.

contact Brent @ RED, he is the guy doing that work, he will take care for you. In the upgrade program they change all the battery things. But the new version isn´t that better - so If you can afford buy IDX or PAG plates and exchange the V mount stuff. If you are using RED bricks, this will kill the communication between camera and battery, you would need to exchange some electronix parts within the battery plate as well.

clicking is usually the sound a hard drive makes before it dies - just sayin'

Shane.

Ditto - I´d be bloody careful with a drive that´s clicking. Usually that means back it up DOUBLE quick, or it´s your ass.

Hope that´s not the case for you, but heads up mate...

Cheers,
Dom.

Ask them if they saw the RED LCD go blue as a result. Power connection issues do not generally result in reboots, only shutdowns. If the RED LCD went blue, it's a software/internal hardware issue and you need to get it checked out.

returned red and fixed camera plates
