Blue screen shutdown error

Hi All,

I'm on location at the moment, and an error has occurred twice so far today, and I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, or can help me diagnose the issue;

The camera freezes, and the image turns a deep blue, before a message comes up- 'powering down' then 'initializing'.

I then have to turn the camera off then on again to restore functionality.

Any ideas? I'm on build 16. Cheers! James.

Hya James,

We had the same deep blue Screen once we ran out of Power. The camera still worked a while with the blue screen until it did shut off. After we put on a New Red Brick it Started initializing again.


Maybe if you did not Run out of Power the cable has a fault or Some connector did come lose. Or the Power supply is not at its Optimum.

Just a guess. Maybe it is something completely different.

Hi thanks for your replies. I have replaced the power cable, and have not had the problem since... Time will tell I guess!

My Lucy came back yesterday from a rental job after a week, and the guys reported the same issue on their last day of shooting, they said it happened 3 or 4 times that day after around 20 minutes of shooting. Screen turning blue and then the camera powered down. They left the camera off for a few minutes and booted up again and everything worked.

I left the camera running last night for around 40 minutes and I had no problems. Id like to look into this issue though and get it resolved.

James: did it happen while actually recording ?

Hi Dominik,

Thankfully it happened while we were setting up- but I found a thread on this subject here:

-and it has affected some other users while shooting. Apparently RED are on it- so we will hopefully have a solution soon!

In the meantime, I'm putting it down to gremlins.

on set right now the view finder turns blue the image can slightly be seen from an angle? kinda a hurry two cameras running cant run off the split. HELP ARR
