Want to Buy: Russian Lomo Anamorphics

200k?

wow. that's a lot of change for lens.

I have a set of square front Lomo's 35mm, 50mm, 80mm. These lenses have a two element anamorphic front, and a small prime lens in the back (looks suspiciously like a copy of the Zeiss standard primes).

The glass is remarkably clean and reflects little light. I can't easily tell if they are multi-coated, but it's definitely better than an old-school magnesium flouride single layer coating (like on the old Todd-AO's).

The focus is geared so that when you focus, the prime lens is displaced, and the anamorphic section in front focuses as well to compensate.

I've never had a chance to project or shoot with them since they're still in OCT-19 mount (or so I assume).

I'd love to know if anyone here knows what movies have been shot with either square or round front Lomo's. I heard that the square fronts were used for B/C camera shots on many high profile anamorphic action movies due to their small size.

Okay, so I just bought a Round Front 35mm Lomo in great condition but it did not come with support. This lens weighs in at about 7-7.5 LBS and I need support. Anyone know where I could get a support bracket for 19mm rods? Attached is a picture of the lens,

Thanks!

Rick Taldykin at Slow Motion Inc has a set of Lomo anamorphics for sale, just exchanged emails with him the other day.
I wish I had a set, too- but right now, I got to tighten my belt for winter.
If there were a way to split such a baby... I'd be very interested

Hi Guys,

I have to clear some things up - regarding the postings from page # 1 and Hawk anamorphic lenses.

Hawk anamorphic lenses ( German company Vantage Film)

Vantage Film was a rental and production house in West-Germany (not East Germany). They made a Deal with Lomo Design Bureau to license the lens Design in the early 90s. They re-calculate and redesigned it by a german optical company according new lens materials and coatings. The Hawks glass optics (the guts) are produced by "Schott Glass" (one of the biggest german glass producer owned by Zeiss - beside Hoya Optics Japan) .

So, the Hawk anamorphic lenses dont use russian glass...its only based on a classic Lomo Lens Design, re-designed in germany and produced in europe. It is possible that the metal housing is produced still in the East.

Elite lenses are not the same like Hawk. Someone posted a X-Ray image of the Lomo and Hawk cine lens......and you saw that they are similar in many parts but different in some optical Design aspects.

Hawk Lenses are very High End Quality. So far...my knowledge until the year 2000/2001. In Germany the hawk anamorphic lenses are very famous and the price tag is very high.

Movies that used Hawk anamorphics:

- The Lives of Others (Germany)
- Blood Diamond (USA)
- Che (USA/Spain)
etc.

Just my 2 cents. I am not employee of Vantage Film. Excuse my bad english.

*** If I did tell some wrong facts...please feel free to contact me ***

cheers

It is possible that Soederbergh used a mix of different anamorphic lenses but I think Leica didnt produce anamorphic cine lenses!
