  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone have suggestion on relinking going from one computer to another?

I installed CS4 on a new computer, transfered over 5000 project files.
When I open the project CS4 doesn't link the files for the project. So we have been going folder by folder. Any tips are greatly appreciated as we been at this for 2 days already.

you could have batch renamed your folder structure to identically replicate the origional system from which it came...

i.e. if your system had 1080p material in D:documents/videos...ect ect
and images and reders on G:blah/blah...

then you would copy all the materials and place them in the identical drive naming structure....then it would relink automatically..

it may be too late now though...but in the future having a standard folder naming convention would help alot...

also remember the collect/condense files feature.

usually if i move systems I only have to point to one file, or 2, and the rest relink automatically, if you've been at it for 2 days, you must have had stuff scattered all over the place

the only other possibility I can think of is opening your project file in notepad and doing a 'find and replace'

good luck

Thanks for reply.

Is this the batch rename in adobe bridge you are referring to?

Also I would have to rename my hard drives letter on the new machine to that of the old machine, correct?

So if old computer had drives named (L) (M) for example I would have to make sure I had L, M drives on my new computer. Doesn't
sound right, so maybe I'm off here.

well if you had the drive letters and folder structure the same you wouldn't need to do any thing....remember its looking for l:blah/blah/video.avi.....it dosn't know that you have switched computers it just is looking for that path

This is precisely your problem. Your drive letters must match when you move the project or Premiere will require the painful relinking that you described.

Right. My original external drives were letters k,l,m,n. Transferring to the new computer with internal drives, those are lettered i,j. So i just need to see how to change drive names. Would be so much easier if Adobe finds a way to do batch automatic search and find.
