  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Fixed lens: not infinity stop in manual focus, fly by wire focus.. What does it mean?

I believe it just means that because the lens is "Fly-By-Wire" the focus ring will turn continuously, instead of stopping when it has reached infinite, as in a manual lens.

I guess this means that you could use it with gearing, but you wouldn't want to because it wouldn't be repeatable. Instead you would want to use the "fly by wire focus" control for pulling focus.

In the internal controls for a fly by wire the system will generally scroll to find the sharpest point. I assume that a hard stop at the infinity point could damage the internal motors. You can make your on hard stop in your gearing.

I don't know if this has been discussed in another thread....I
I work with documentaries and I would like to see lenses developed with AF because in certain situations, it is invaluable to forget about focus pulling.
I know the 8x fixed lens for Scarlet has AF, but I prefer to build a modular systems with the 2/3 rd brain.

Can anyone tell me which RED lenses are expected to have AF?

The only RED AF lenses are the 8X that is on the 2/3" SCARLET, and the FF35 lenses (three zooms, a telephoto, and 1.4x and a 2x extenders).

It's all here http://www.red.com/epic_scarlet/ at the pick a lens page.
