The aerial predation sequences were shot with the world's first marine cineflex at 60 fps 4:2:2 HDCAM SR and edited in a 23.98 time line.

Time lapse and underwater was shot iN RED 4K 16:9 23.98

FUN STUFF...

Bit bloody cold though eh??

Good work guys, looking forward to seeing the doco sometime. Will be in the air on my way to London, Manila and Kuala Lumpur during the show, bummer.

Chat soon,
Mark.

Would make an interesting sequel: When homo sapiens make soup.

(Let's face it: we're a more deadly and ruthless species.)

Cutting edge stuff...don't miss this!

Executive Producers for this National Geographic Channel special were Mike Devlin, Steve Gibby, and Peter Vann.

Producer/Directors were Mike Devlin and Ken Corben

Cinematographers were Mike Devlin, Ken Corben, Johnny Friday, Steve Gibby, and others.

CineFlex V14 aerial footage is stunning. Underwater footage is breathtaking.

If you liked the Planet Earth and Blue Planet series, you'll love Icy Killers. Check it out!

Just caught this on NG channel by chance. My wife and I were enthralled with the quality of the footage - even at broadcast SD resolutions. In fact, I'm a little ashamed to admit it, but my wife called it way before I did. She said, "this has GOT to be Red footage." Looks like she was right! Gorgeous stuff and great color correction too.

Way to go!

That is awesome - thank you for watching our show and for the compliments.
The underwater behavior of these amazing sharks could not have been documented with out the RED ONE, the ARRI 8R and our amazing underwater cameramen John Friday and Alfredo Barroso.

Ted from RED, Governor Palin and her parents were all very impressed by the visual spectacle of this amazing story of Icy Killers: Alaska's Salmon Shark at the world Premiere in Anchorage today.

Cheers,

Ken

PS - Thanks Jim :-)

Was a great challenge to shoot this show below the surface and here are some behind the scene pics of the dive team:

This looks great guys!

Just curious where exactly you were shooting? I grew up in SE Alaska (Juneau, Wrangell, and Etolin island)

Why are you wearing pijamas on the boat?

Thanks Mike...

We shot throughout Prince William Sound, six months per year, for the last two years. Home base was a custom-rigged 75' Viking Sportfisher.

For those in the USA who missed yesterday's airings of Icy Killers on National Geographic Channel, there is another airing tomorrow (Monday) morning at 8am (check local listings)

Check it out!

Just watched the show (recorded on my DVR from yesterday) and I have to say it looked spectacular in HD on a 60 inch SXRD. Great work guys, can't wait to see more productions from you all.
