i am working in red cine with 4k footage and have noticed excessive noise in the blacks even with the NR enabled. at first i thought it was just some problem with Pro res, but when i went back to check the raw i saw it there as well. Are there any good ways to reduce noise and grain In red cine? or in a pinch in FCP?

The examples look good but is there anything I can do myself (our budget has been spent) using red cine or FCP

First of all: Are you doing a full debayer?

Next: talk to a photographer about their tools for NR. Personally, I like Noise Ninja. For video DE:Noise and Purifier are quite good.

Defocus blue

Defocus blue

I have had some luck using the adaptive sharp/soft filter in my system on REDONE footage, you defocus the Blue with edge low and bias full negative and if needed set the Red edge just above even and bias somewhat low, and you set Green a little edge sharpen and some non-edge bias below even.

When you blur just the blue your eye does not see that since eyes do not focus in the blue unless there are blocks of noise, when you soften the blue noise it is harder to see it through the green and red images.

If you would like me to process a 4K TIF frame so you can see what that would look like an can probably do a CC+filter on one for you... Also once you go to a filmout you will lose quite a bit of the detail, so do not shapen 4K images you just make the noise higher and do not get sharper film prints so much...

Oh, good... I was afraid it was a thread complaining about my posts.

Dude, seriously! Stop making my head hurt!

Well, quite a primitive thing to do, but if noise isn't too bad and mostly in the shadows you could just clip the blacks down a bit.
