Does the Red Nikon mount really have aperture control so as to use lenses like the G Nikons ?

When I bought my Red Nikon mount I was asking about "Doug's mount", and the Red rep told me that the Red mount is identical to Doug's mount.

Now I've been checking out the video made by Doug for his mount and he uses a knob to control aperture, can this be done on the Red Nikon mount ? the mount I got has no knob.

RED sells the "basic" Nikon mount. If you want a "G" version you have to send it to him to have it "converted". But he did 'invent' the Nikon mount that RED is selling.

Go to You Tube. Search Red Nikon mount. You will see nice video on how it is installed, used, aligned, iris stops, etc.

I saw the vids on youtube, but it's not like I can't install the mount, it is that I do not have the iris knob.

So now if I want to have the knob put in, I would have to send my mount to be modded (if they are still taking in mounts), and I would lose the use of my camera for a while.

The first Nikon mount for Red was made by Doug. This had no aperture control for G lenses. Let's call this the Doug Mount, mkI.

This mount was then adapted by Red, and is now sold as the Red Nikon mount. (Still manufactured by Doug?)

Later, Doug designed a mount with aperture control for G lenses, sold as a modification to the original mount. This is the Doug Mount, mkII. (Official name: "Long Valley Nikon GDX Mount".) To get this, you have to send your mount and some money to Doug, and he'll send you a modded one back.

I guess the Red rep just wasn't aware of the mkII...

I see... now I can at least understand whats going on. Thanks

Yes, send me your original Nikon mount for RED and I will swap you a new mount with the GDX iris control for $295 plus $25 overnight shipping ($35 usps express mail overseas).

If you like, send me the original mount after you get the GDX mount from me, this way you will not have a time when you don't have a Nikon mount for your camera.

P.S. I did make all the original Nikon mounts for RED (at least, i think I did).

Doug
