  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anybody use Cineform? or Si 2K? and understand its RAW files?

I know this is not RED but its RED related I have mixed footage of RED and Cineform footage.

I have some footage shot on a Silicon Imaging camera 2k aka SI2K
The files im told are RAW
They are an extension of .avi
They all come with an applied look which ive seen and been shown is embedded Meta Data because I installed the looks and now the looks show in the QT and in FCP with the clips.

My question is
How can i turn off the look and view back in RAW?
I need to go back to RAW so i can color Grade the clips.

I use the free download trial version of NEO PLAYER to view the clips
and I can Launch Set Active Metadata but i cant control or turn off the look its all grayed out.
Any help anyone please?

Thanks
Luis

Lu,

I've used it before several times. I think that to be able to effectively turn looks on or off, you need to actually have a working copy of Cineform and Premiere installed on your PC. Or you could take the footage somewhere where they use Cineform and have it transcoded. But of course, I could be wrong and there could be an easier/cheaper way. You should re-post this on the Workflow forum under Adobe, I known both David Taylor and David Newman (head honchos for Cineform) post there regularly, or even better, send them a PM...

Right on thanks.

I heard that it can be done in FCP
i just cant figure out how
I downloaded the free 15 day trial but not having luck with turning it off yet

thanks though

On the Mac, the global controls for the CineForm RAW file settings are in the System Preferences. So if you want to "turn-off" the .Look 3D-LUT attached to a file, go into the System Preferences, then go to the CineForm preference panel, and in there you will see a bunch of global controls you can use to turn on/off the different layers of metadata attached to a CineForm RAW file.

These metadata "layers" include:

1) White-balance
2) Matrix (by default with the SI-2K this is disabled in the file itself since the matrix is inside the 3D LUT, and having the matrix active with the 3D LUT would cause a "doubling" effect of the matrix which would look very odd)
3) .Look file 3D LUT

Once you turn them off on a global level, they should be "off" inside of FCP and any other application using the CineForm RAW decoder.

Hope this helps,

Jason

Hi Jason I see what your talking about and I got there however everything is grayed out and from what i understand this should be a working trail version

Thanks.
