I'm on final stage to wrap up the dpx files from Color for sending to Imagica Japan's DI environment on this feature called "Raise the Castle!".

We are going to be submitting the edl, xml and the dpx folders from the FCP and the Color. The edl and the dpx folders will be sent to davinci Resolve, apply final color grading there, then the graded dpx files are sent to iQ with the xml file for final online editing.

My concern is the speed change with some clips. The clips with speed changes applied in FCP, would render from Color with some excess loops at the end. If you use "Gather Rendered Media" in Color actually seems to corrects the final gathered dpx with the unnecessary loops at the end, also renders the wipes very smoothly. However, in my case, I won't be using the "Gather..." feature because I'm submitting the EDL and the XML so I'd have to have the dpx clips with handles because those wipes will be process with iQ. Would I have to manually omit the excess renders, or I can just let them be because it would be ignored in the EDL conforming?

Or is it now cure for the speed change? The last feature I had worked, I ending up submitting the speed change clips separately.

Speed changes are still a problem in Color.

Not having worked in the same environment, I don't dare to comment on the rest.

Hi Uli,

I guess I just have to make a timeline only with the speed change clips that are set back to 100% and swap those with the bad renders.

Best,

Yes, indeed.

Ciao Kaku,
if you apply a speed effect in final cut and you send to color, color will have problem to render the clip. Also if you bring back the clip to 100% speed in fcp and then send to color, color will think there's a speed effect on it and it will have render issue. If you have applied speed changes in fcp, use the remove attributes command in fcp before sending to color. If you don't want to come back to fcp you can do it by baking the effects in fcp prior to send to color.
Search "Preparing Your Sequences to Go From FCP to Color" (the direct link doesn't work because it's a cow stuff).

Luca,

Interesting thing is that with speed effect sent to color, render, then apply "gather rendered media" will put together the right outcome. We decided to go with this and make a new track on Color to bring in the 100% clips on top of the for the assurance.

Kaku,

Do I read you right? Gather rendered media corrects the missmatch I see when speed changes sent to color via XML or EDL? Is it only for constant changes or variable also?

The portion that I found out that it ended up corrected was the constant speed change mixed with a wipe. I'd have to look into it good again, though.
I'm going to do a huge rendering tonight (along with the extra track I laid out over to make sure we have dpx clips to replace).
