Hi guys

im currently writing a proposal for a PhD I am wanting to do. The main topic would be about digital cinematography systems with the main focus on the RED ONE of course. I also want to take a look at competitive systems out there.

Can anyone recommend books that deal extensively with HD cinematography ? I already know about the books from Paul Wheeler which are all really fantastic resources but im looking for some more.

any recommendations greatly appreciated.

thanks

There are not many I know of. The ones I've read seem pretty off when it comes to in depth digital cinematography. The best way to stay updated is reading the forums.

As the RED lends itself closer to D-SLR than HD, it also makes sense to look at Digital Photography and raw in general I would guess.

I wrote a paper on digital cinematography (featuring the RED) for my final year at uni - I'll see if I can dig out my reference list. Also happy to PM you the essay if you want to take a look.

Yes, it would be nice to have a book containing an in depth analysis of what exactly RAW is, documenting RAW workflows, standard processes when shooting RAW, ect.

That kind of information is so bleeding edge, and consistently changing, that it doesn't seem to be in books yet. But it would sure help, as RAW is very confusing to many.

Some of the refs I used for the paper: mostly available online if you're subbed to a resource like Academia Online.

Sorry about the formatting, it's laid out for APA referencing.
Also, Google Books is your friend.

Peter: nothing really, they are quite aware that the topic is fairly new and there isn't too much "reputable" or extensive literature around, i am just trying to get an as extensive reference list together as possible.
