  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Which movie turned you into a film maker

The one that tipped the scale and made me go after it was:

Leon

Star Wars when I was very young turned me on to the magic of the movies, and Braveheart got me to thinking that being a director might be kind of awesome. :)

I was born, brought back home from the hospital and my crib was by the tv.
My brother religiously watched star wars over and over again for years as did I (and still do to a lesser extent now)

I never wanted to be an astronaut or fireman like the other little kids; I just wanted to make my own Star Wars movie :)

Ishtar, Howard the Duck, and Gigli.

Laugh out loud!! I think this is technically a "3rd" of two other posts.

For me it was a book. (or books)

Edgar Rice Burroughs (tarzan Fame) A Princess of Mars, The Gods of Mars, Warlord of Mars... written in 1912, basically ripped off by every Sci-Fi movie since. The grand father of science fiction.

For the last 30 years I have dreamed of bringing those books to the screen... (First 5 actually) even talked to his granddaughter, Margaret Burroughs when I was 18 in 1982!

and this year, PIXAR just picked it up after at least 10 to 15 years of Turn Around Hell... Andrew Stanton WALL -E directing... sigh.

depressed and excited at same time... I would have preferred
Peter Jackson and WETA digital... but at least it will be Live Action.

Now I want to quit filmmaking and become a master Saucier'

It's hard to say which film exactly but I know that 'Jean De Florette' with Gerard Depardieu played a significant role in my love of film-making.

I saw Goodfellas when I was 12 then One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest when I was 13 and have never looked back..

"Lonely College Coeds Part 12" .....needless to say I am still struggling to get into porn as a serious filmmaker and artist, offering full 4K clarity and cinemascope images to a visually underchallenged industry. :shifty:  :shifty:

The film that first got me interested in cinema was ET, but there are two films really got me into filmmaking. "king cobra" and "the langoliers". after seeing both of those I thought, "i can do better than that". i made short films for a while after seeing those. then after seeing "the village", which was a decent-budget hollywood release, i came to the conclusion that i could have told the same story better than m. night shyamalan. that's what set me off writing my first feature. i've never really thought about the creative and motivational impact that watching a terrible movie can bring.

John J.Rambo,Fight Club and dr.strangelove....hehe
i was influenced more by directors then movies itself.
Brian de Palma, Sergio Leone and David Fincher, which dissapoints me as a fan more and more :)

Very interesting :)

Now do you think that that film (that turned you into a film maker) have big influence about your choice of story? Do you feel compel to make the same kind a of movie?

(Interestingly, I saw E.T. Starwars, indiana jones - all of them when they first release in the cinema but they just didn't do it for me)

Jurassic Park. I was 11. Over the years I've managed to see it nearly 20 (21 on my count but I don't have stubs from when it was released to confirm) times in a theater and probably near or over 100 total due to numerous weekly viewings throughout middle school.

Props, Neil Larson!

I'm of course a huge fan of Spielberg films on the whole, but have certainly broadened my tastes over time. I love David Lean, Peter Weir and many others - epic films and indies, etc. Regardless, when I saw JP when I was 11, I knew I wanted to be a film maker. Still do. Still am.
