Shot with my Angenieux 25-250mm T3.9 (yep, the antique), entirely in a single 90 minute 'magic hour' period using only available light (hence the one or two slightly jumpy cuts, I didn't have a huge pile of coverage to work with).

Shawn,
great job i like the look your getting with the 25-250.

127 views of the thread and only two comments? come'on ya'll :-) not fishing for compliments here, if you hate it, tell me what's unprofessional about it.

If you want technical stuff, I was distracted by the lens wobble at 01:18, but overall it looks very good, and I'm tremendously impressed that all of it was shot in only 90 minutes!
The shot from 1:44...2:15 is interestingly eerie with the boy walking up while tilted at that angle. I guess you're on a slope, and tilting the camera to the right to bring the horizon level (?)

I enjoyed it quite a bit Shawn. I really liked some of the long lens shots of the woman. and the fact that the lighting was all natural, it looked great...it had this soft glow to it that i thought worked really well for the mood you were trying to portray.

I didn't really understand the baby becoming the boy...but I think it was because the mom needed help letting go and the boy told her to do just that...but thats the best I can make out from it.

Nice looking stuff though.

very nice and atmospheric.
Love the shot of her walking away...
I did not like the cut you did from 2.15 going 2.16, feels jumpy.
Was it original score?
great work!

Great for a short window. Question on the grading- contrast seemed flat. Skintones-baby looked green.

What stop did you use on the lense?

Great job Shawn. I think sometimes people get a little lost on the technical side of things with lenses. There's this obsession with sharpness and contrast in modern cinema glass. Lenses are after all a means to tell a story. Anyways, I love this Angenieux, the look is so organic.

As a purely graphic element, I also enjoyed the diagonal horizon/hill line.

As far as critique:
The POV on the baby jumps over the line and is a little jarring (but maybe only if you look for that sort of thing).
I agree with Albert "the cut you did from 2.15 going 2.16, feels jumpy."

The occational camera shake / reframe doesn't fit the mood of the piece.

While the MCU of the boy was a cool shot, conceptually it didn't tie up the piece for me. . .

Anyways, bravo sir. 90 minutes of coverage? That's damn impressive.

Not sure if that's a typo, but I didnt have anything close to 90 minutes of coverage :-). We shot in a 90 minute period and only used 4 8gb CF cards (all at 4k R36).

Good comments on the mistakes, I agree.

And yes, I love this old Angenieux! It's actually pretty sharp. The focus buzzes are due to me trying to pull my own focus :-). It's the same lens that PixThis has (I got my own). It really needs lens support though. I got one from Cavision that works pretty well. I also had to do a surface mod to the lens to attach modern cine pitch so I could use a FF.

I meant with only 90 minutes to get coverage the amount you got is impressive.

Yeah I've spent many a long night with PixThis' Angenieux. Great Lens. Stopped down it is impressively sharp. I agree on the lens support, it's a bit of a beast.

Isn't it amazing that we live in an age where someone can shoot a piece like this with little to no crew and use their own gear. I think this might be considered a revolution . . . .

I was wondering when someone was going to post a dead baby movie, shot on Red. All the previous dead baby movies I've seen have either been film or XL1

Don't mind my sarcasm Shawn :) Keep up the good work!

Dude, you're killin me :-)

I feel naive or tired...I know there's a bunch of 'dead baby' jokes, but didn't know there was a wave of shorts to go with them. dang!

anyways, thanks for watching!

and when do I get the new Crimson? Must have offline-online conform process plus the glorious "Red Room" in Color!

Damn good film man. My personal opinion is these old lenses are worth their weight in gold, they provide such a filmic look to my eyes, I love it.

How is working indoors with the lens, pretty tough with it being 3.9?
