  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can anyone with an upgraded camera recommend a source for the mini-XLR adapters?

Hi all. . .

As you folks with audio-upgraded cameras know, RED supplies new mini-XLR cables. Unfortunately, these cable don't have standard-sized F-XLR connectors on the ends. Consequently, to use these new cables, one needs a F-XLR to M-mini-XLR adapter of some sort.

Can anyone let me know where they are buying theirs?

Thanks much.

Stephen

There are a host of these on ebay, some are good quality too in so far as mini XLR's can be.

Okay. . . so now I'm confused.

What I want is something with no resistors inside. The old audio cables had the resistors in them. What we need for the upgraded audio board is an adapter that has no resistors.

Thanks.

Now I'm confused... Did you not send in your mini-to-XLR adapter cables to RED, or did they not replace them, when you sent in your camera? I'm still dragging my feet getting my camera sent in -- maybe next week. But I thought they gave us the mini to full size XLR plug that is shown in this thread, plus a short mini to mini cable to attach it, for each mini to full XLR cable we returned to them. It would then serve the same function as the old one with the pads, but no pads this time and one more connection in the middle...

As for mini to standard XLR adapters or short cables, they're pretty easy to find. Most pro audio or musical stores will have them. B&H has them as well as the links in this thread...

Hi there, Jeff. . .

Ah. . . I see that your question. . . and mine. . . are integrally related!

RED told me that there were out of something. . . it is apparently the mini-XLR to XLR adapters. All they send me was a cable that is mini-XLR to mini-XLR. Hence my question. I can't use those mini-cable without the adapters.

So, yes. . . I did get new cables. . . but I can't use those cables until I get some adapters to allow me to use them.

I think I'll just buy those cool-looking red ones from Coffey and save the adapters, when they eventually arrive, for spares.

Thanks everyone!

YES! That´s what they sent me.

Stephen,

If you need a cheap, well engineered stress relieve for your XLR, BNC and Timecode cables, I have a product that I'm working on right now.
PM me if you are interested and I can send you some pictures.
best,

Philipp

Stephen,

We did run out of the adapters for less than 24 hours. We thought it was best to get our customers their cameras back immediately, and send the adapters when we got them. All adapters that were missing are leaving on the Fedex truck today. Sorry for the slight delay. If you have any questions feel free to email me (bfair-at-red-dot-com).

Thanks,
Brian

Thanks much, Brian. . . I just got my RED FedEx shipment notification about the adapters. I just wasn't quite sure how to deal with the mini-XLR to XLR situation. Now I know.

Now, if View Factor and Birger would just be so prompt.

:-(
