I'm doing a presentation for a very large client with their own production studio and workflow on integrating the Red into this workflow. Upon our intial meeting with the production manager the only question that i couldn't answer is if it is possible to edit metatdata within the R3D file. This is not to change the color profile, more to add notes ie "good take" "Clients name" etc. They want this feature for archiving purposes. Is there any 3rd party software or any current software that can do this?

I believe Clipfinder allows you to add notes.

As far as I know, there is no official mechanism for third party applications that would allow you to embed metadata in the R3D files.
There does exist a well-documented mechanism (programming API) for embedding metadata in Quicktime files and Final Cut Server can be configured to extract this metadata.
If embedding metadata in transcoded Quicktimes would help you, let me know.
I am currently considering adding this ability to the next version of Clipfinder.

Cheers,
Hans

I appreciate the information Hans. At this point it's not really for my own personal workflow, more an extremely large client that I am working with and some of their editors that enjoy having this function specifially with the P2 workflow. I honestly don't know much about this part of the editing process and was more just putting out a general inquiry as to the possiblity of this.
Since we are pushing a native R3D workflow I'm not sure embedding metadata in Quicktimes would work out, but i'm certainly not against having that as an option. Thanks for the fast responses, it is much appreciated.

Sorry to mislead you - only the camera will create an R3D file which includes metadata as well.
