Auto Focus Lock

[Ramesh Jai]

Is there an auto focus lock?

Example: I have a 300mm lens on and I have a fast car driving towards the camera, head on. Instead of manually trying to keep the car in focus as it gets closer and closer - is there a device which we can keep in the car which is 'locked' to a focussing device on the camera which in turn adjusts the focus automatically as the car approaches?

I hope I have explained properly. Thanks

There are systems that have a motor on the focus, and a box that controls it connected to a laser which is synced with the shutter. The AC points the laser at the target, and the motor focuses the lens to the correct distance. They used them on that movie about the runner Pri Fontaine or whatever his name was.
