Is it possible to transcode 4K 23.98fps Red footage into DVCPRO 1080p using RedRushes or other software? We would like to transcode our upcoming feature film into something that doesn't take as much space as ProRes HQ.

you can use any codec on your machine in Red Cine or Red Alert! I believe. But you will pay a quality penalty in the long run in exchange for saving space, and considering how cheap
hard drives are....well its your movie.

What is the quality difference between ProRes and DVCPro?

Uhm, 10 bit for a start? And holding up much better to multiple generations.

I'm only seeing the DVCPRO 720 codec in RedAlert and RedRushes. The 1080p24 codec shows up in Final Cut in the Sequence Presets of the Audio/Video settings tab. How do I get it to show up in RedAlert or RedRushes?

We may end up using ProRes, but our editor would like to use DVCPro. I'm an assistant editor.

EDIT: I called Red and they said the software doesn't support DVCPro 1080p24. Just 720. We'll be using ProResHQ.

Take it from us, transcode to apple pro res! I personally can't tell the difference between pro res and pro res hq, so just stick with pro res.

Hi JNFilms:

ProRes SQ is 145Mbps, best for offline
ProRes HQ is 220Mbps, best for online, always talking about HD resolutions.

Where did you read that? AFAIK ProRes SQ is 10 bit too.
