Shooting a commercial and trying to keep the budget low. If I use my nikon 17-35, 24-70, 70-200, for some of the shots how will those lenses look compared to a cine prime set? I.E. 25mm fixed on the nikon zoom or a 25mm cine prime. Is the DOF the biggest change. I have a nikon 85 and 50, but I want to have a shallow depth of field for the entire piece. Shooting 4k in an old house. I am not concerned with other factors just DOF.

Thanks

The DoF between a Nikon zoom lens set to 25mm and a 25mm PL mount cine lens should be exactly the same, assuming both are set to the same aperture (f stop).

I would reccommend Zeiss ZF Primes. The best still lenses I've seen.

if you can find them somewhere, there are nikon-mount zeiss zf lenses rehoused by p+s technik with cine style focus and iris ring. they work beautifully, although they focus pulling in the opposite direction compared to arri.
the only difference i find from ultra primes, except little differences in focal length ( the zeiss zf come in 18, now also 20 (i think) 25, 35, 50 and 85 mm.) is a little difficulty on focusing due to the minor rotation of the focus ring, especially with nikon lenses.
biggest issue will be the nikon mount.
after a while, lenses start to move on the mount, especially if a follow focus is used that keeps pushing the lens on the side.
hope this helps.
