  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing the new SWITRONIX GP-TS-RED2

Is the battery info from one battery or both? If only one, is it only from one plate? Does it have 2 12v D-taps or the option of one 24v one?

The battery info is from just one plate. If the unit is mounted on the back of the camera (say on the cradle or quickplate) then it would be the plate farther away from the camera operator side. Power will always flow to the camera with a battery on either side, but if there is only a battery on the other plate the indicator will note "DC" for the power instead of a percentage readout. If you put two fresh bricks on the plate at the same time then the percentage readout will be essentially accurate as the camera will draw equally from both batteries so it will take twice as long for the percentage readout to count down than it does with one battery -- or now approximately 2.5 hours with a normal load. Or you can attach just one battery on the status readout side and as it begins to dip low attach a battery to the non-readout side for a short time while you swap out the status readout side and then remove the non-readout side battery.

There is a single 12v P-tap on the back of the unit. Unlike the port on the RED plate this port is has a protection fuse that is easily replaced should it be blown. Better to protect your gear with a 10-cent fuse than risk an expensive burnout.

Actionproducts Swappack

Hi,

I'd like to remind everyone there's also Actionproducts great Swappack : http://actionproducts.ch/accessories/swappack.html

It is more expensive but includes a mount, standard is for 19mm rods but they have adapters for 15mm, you also get the battery status (from one battery) on the camera, it has TWO D-taps, AND allows you to switch it around to keep the same balance after switching batteries. I've been using this for a few months now, I really have a hard time going back to a single battery plate.

I'll add I also use their Powerbox : http://actionproducts.ch/actioncam/power-plates.html
which allows to power up to three accessories using lemo cables.

Cheers,
Damien

PS I am in no way affilliated with Actionproducts, just a happy customer.

Received the GP-TS-RED2 today.

... And can't figure out how to mount it to the Element Technica Battery plate. Help!

I believe the ET plate has a magnet on it that you'll need to remove. Then you are left with a metal plate that has six threaded holes that match to the RED battery mount. These same six holes align to the adapter plate included with the GP-TS-RED2. Attach this to the ET plate and then attach the new battery mount to the plate.

Why do ET plates ship with those magnets on them? Could never figure those out...
