  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MC 3.5 and Meta Fuze

A new version of MetaFuze was announced today. Transcode .r3d files to DNX media, import ALE file, relink and cut away. Once you've finished, send your bin to Avid DS and conform using the .r3d files.

No need for the ALE - the metadata is stored in the MXF wrapper. This is an initial release of where we are with the SDK - there are still some limitations we are working on and will update when available.

This is great! I've just trancoded my first R3D to DnXHD36 MFX and worked great.
I had to delete QT ref files created by camera, because MF hanged when scanning folder with QT inside.

Now I want to try it running on VM Fusion, do I need to create a windows machine?
Thanks!!!

Great Job Michael!

I use it all the time on my MacBook Pro with VMWare. I just use it as a window - not as a spearate bootup.

If you like this version of MetaFuze, you'll like the next one even better!

Michael

Did you select only the .R3D files in the transcode window? Also, if you have segmented files, just select the first and MetaFuze will stitch them all back together.

Michael - I transcode direct to my media drives, the ALE file just makes it easy to organize without having to go through my media folders and finding the correct MXF media to link in.

I selected Scan Folder.

Sorry Boltown, I just noticed you froze while scanning. Hmmm - not the result I get here. I get to leave the QT ref files in the folders. I'm running on the PC platform though. As Michael said, Metafuze will also run under VMWarFusion/Bootcamp and Linux. I also have DS running on my MacBook Pro but haven't installed MetaFuze yet. I'll try later today and let you know the results.

Hi Boltown, just installed Metafuze under bootcamp and got the same crash as you. Removed the QT ref files and it scanned fine. I've reported this back to the Devs.

Thanks

Ok, thanks for the update!-
I don´t know If i´ll be able to downgrade to 7.4.5 as i´m running MC 3.1.2 on that machine.
I think I´ll need to install MetaFuze on a Non-MC computer if i want to avoid the QT ref crash, Will test and let you know.

One of the things we are adding to MetaFuze is a file type filter or the scan, so removing the files beforehand will not be an issue.

quick question to the avid users.
you are taking avid over adobe/fcp because of what exactly...
just interested to know what it makes worth to take the transcode..relink...rerelink..ale...etc. route.

i am no cutter but just curious...is it the UI/Mediahandling.
what is it exactly for you guys.

As an editor myself, it is not about the camer format or source, it is about storytelling with picture and sound. The interface is streamlined for storytelling, the media handling and organization is key for large projects, and features like ScriptSync put it above all other NLE's for the creative craft of editing. There's only one relink - import ALE, select ALL, merge.

I used to teach the Adobe products at a couple of the Editing schools in L.A. I love their product line. I have a Macbook Pro with Final Cut, Avid MC and Avid DS, I just choose whatever works best for what I'm presented with. Since I'm finishing on DS, most of the time that is Composer. At the finishing end--DS gives me an all in one workhorse product. Sure there are occasions where I have to jump into other apps, but as an all-in-one product, it does very nicely.

Not yet, this version was implemented using an older version of the SDK that did not support audio. The next version will.
