Hey all,

Any reason to think RedCine/Alert/Rushes would have any trouble on the new Mac Pros just announced?

Would like to pick one up to speed things up, but don't want to take any chances.

Thanks!

Jim

I'd say at least, it's safer to choose the option as ATI 3870HD as the video card, thank god they made it as an option.

Apple does not warn third parties for new machines ahead of time, so all of the developers have to look into the compatibilities after ordering the new machines from Apple. Apple should have better developers' connection but nowadays, they don't care.

I think it depends on the 3rd party. I know a lot of developers who get unreleased machines well in advance.

Thanks for the card advice, I hadn't considered that. I was planning to get the standard card and then upgrade it when a proper option came out.

Cheers,

Jim

It seems to be that way BEFORE, lately I've spoken to many developers directly, they all say the same thing.

Given the pretty good co-operation between RED and Apple, I bet they had hardware for testing, but they'd never talk about it.

I'm pretty sure the programs work, but I'd suggest the ATI card as well, since Color seems to like ATI.

Do we know if anyone at RED has tested it? Makes sense that they would have.

Love to know the results before buying one.

Just to jump in, I have a new 8core Mac Pro on it's way to me, I have to use it for the Red workflow on a feature I'm cutting, I plan on testing the pipeline top to bottom. And I've got the stock nvidia card in it (ordered the stock model to get it faster...)

Jim, is there anything specific you'd like to see tested?

-Patrick.

Did you mean to say ATI 4870? Because I don't see the one you mentioned. I have the 4870 on order and if this don't work, I'm screwed!

Thanks Patrick! Just the obvious really. Do the Red apps work as well or better than the older Mac Pros and do they do it twice as fast! ;-)

I sent a support ticket into Red. Response was "No issues reported..."

Of course it could be that no one has tried it! They didn't mention if they had tested in house.
I'm going to follow up.

Thanks again!

Jim
