Hi,

Some TV stations still use Betacam SP here. :)

Is there a difference in recorded image quality between a PVW-2800 and a BVW-70 ?

Thanks

Antoine

There is a difference in the luminance channel and perhaps a
few other specs with a UVW deck. I don't believe there's any difference
in specifications with a PVW verse a BVW deck. The BVW was made to take more "abuse". It was made for broadcast operations. Having said that, parts for PVW used to be cheaper to replace. The PVW-2800 is my all-time favorite deck. Betcam-SP is still used in many places, particularly for its ease of use with offline pencil edit using the shuttle knob.

Hi David,

Have you directly compared the recorded images of these two decks ?

Thanks

Antoine

Hello guys! I have compared both. The PVW-2800 is a better recorder deck due to the better components. To the naked eye, the images look the same but under heavy technical scrutiny, the PVW-2800 has a better recorded signal.

I own it and love it for any professional quality Beta SP outputs.

Check our website below!

What ???

You think the PVW-2800 records a better image than a BVW-70 ?

Geeze....

I thought the PVW-2800 could be close or maybe equal to a BVW-70...but better ?

I am very surprise, but since you have compared both.

Thanks!

Antoine

p vs B

p vs B

since both decks have been out of production for a eternity (or the equivalent in this business) and you would be comparing used decks. I not sure how available the parts are so bringing either back to factory is a bit of a non issue ... when i worked for a sony beta authorized repair center the techs explain the difference to me like this the B (broadcast) series and the P (professional) series were almost identical the major differences were things like nylon gears in place of brass and other physical changes the could affect service life. the U series were a different design both physical and electronic and had a lower bandwidth in recording

Recording quality is going to have to be compared on a deck to deck basis depending upon you find and their use and service life more than model to model comparison.

Hi David,

Have you directly compared the recorded images of these two decks ?

Thanks

OK,

Just received a BVW-75 today that seems to work superb.
Will have it checked and will compare recording to my PVW-2800.

Thanks

Antoine

beta is beta no matter what machine rcords the signal, the difference is in durability

Oh boy...

Paul,

I was wondering which deck was cleaner between a PVW-2800 and a BVW-70, but i am VERY sure (having compared) a UVW is noisier than both the PVW and BVW. And Both PVW and BVW look sharper than a UVW too, evident for naked eye, no doubt about this one.
