  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will the DSMC have a hot shoe so that strobes can be fired with a pocket wizard?

we will have an x-sync (pc) port.. which you can drive pocket-wizards from directly or via a xsync to hotshoe adapter

( isn't it so convenient that those hot shoe adapter have 1/4 20 screw holes and we have a nice row of 1/4 20"s on top of the brains :) )

Hey Jarred any idea on the flash sync speed. Please continue to put the beat down on the comp and go 1/500 at least. That would huge.

we actually have a few tricks up our sleeve...

Yes ! Neither the D3X nor the Canon 1Ds MKIII can sync faster than 200 or 250. I hear photographers and assistants bitching about this all of the time.

500 sync speed would be one of those little features that would put DSMC in a class with Hasselblad and Mamiya medium format cameras (which all sync @ 500).

Except that Hassy sync at 1/800 and the Mamiya used for MFDB's sync at 1/90... The Rollei re-brands syncs at 1/1000.
Hassys that sync at 1/500 is the old ones which are hardly usefull for modern comercial studios as the tolerances are not good enough for critical focusing after some use.
MHO.

you need to look at the whole system and not just the limitations of leaf or focal shutters .. The original Pocket wizards have a hard time past 1/250th of a second.. the new ones with Hypersync (which i havn't used yet) are supposed to solve that issue.

oh boy, I keep loving this camera by the day.

the possibilities are endless! The idea of using pocket wizards with some strobes to produce impressive quality using the DSMC system get me jumping off my chair!

when is the camera ganna be out again?!

You may want to consider not doing a PC Sync port, but one with a 2.5mm or if you have room to spare, the more standard 3.5mm mini mono jack.

Those PC sync connectors are pesky nasty things, a lot of people interested in off-camera flash photography convert try to avoid them. They fall out, they fail to fire the flash, pins break. Lovely. Converters from 3.5mm to PC sync cables are easy to obtain from any pro camera store if you need them anyway.

Come on, someone give me a sign, Jared... anyone from team RED. I really want to be able to offer our clients Red Cameras with the capability of syncing to strobes... that would be amazing.

Jarred,

tricks up your sleeve??? A mount for hassy lens??? So that I can use my leaf shutter lens to achieve hi speed sync???

Cheers,
Prio
