  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Carl Zeiss Super Speed Pricing History...

I love Ultras but better is a subjective statement. Sharper? absolutely but Supers have a very nice feel, sometimes that's more important than sharp. I actually like the way my standard speeds render better than the S4s. It's all in how you feel personally about the look of the glass.

I'm with you Evin. I like the 2.1 very much. But here we are talkin' about prices too high... for some used equipement... I think the Cooke Speed Pancro for sell here can be fantastic, but... the price it's really reasonable...
OK there is nothing absolute but think to the rental price. Generaly the superspeed are 1/2 of the Ultras...

It's a way to see the problem...
Hope to work with you Evin so we will see wich lenses you choose...:calm:

True but they (Supers) are asked for about twice as often because of the budgets Reds often get hired out for.

Pay the same amount for older-worse-cheaper lenses, as for modern primes. So you can rent them out for half the price of modern primes, but twice as often.
Is that a good deal?

It is if you lose the rental because the producers don't want to pay $500 for lenses. Or you eat the difference and end up farther in the hole. Honestly, producers go to Owner/Ops for a better deal, if they're gonna rent Ultras, Masters or S4s they can afford to go to a rental house for the whole shebang. I also subrent when I need something more expensive. If I were to buy any modern lenses it would be Optimos, those rent like crazy with or without a camera.

I'm glad you guys realized I was kidding. I was in a mischievous mood that day. I was worried I'd get flamed by people thinking I was serious - or - people who thought it wasn't funny.

I never said Master Primes, Ultra Primes or S4 are not better than Zeiss Mk 1-2-3. But the price difference is substantial. I think medium focal length masters are around $25,000.- USD EACH LENS. S4 slightly less, Ultra Primes, slightly less still.

It looks like my customer is going to take his lenses back and put them to work and start making money with them. Better than have me keep pimping them out here, being open to lower offers, but getting weak response. The idea was to keep them pristine, unused condition after the overhaul, but it's just not worth it. I'd rather see them working anyway.

There were only so many of these lenses ever made and many sets destroyed. In any event, severe recession or not, new lenses or not, I don't expect the prices to get any lower than they were a few years ago, before this insanity began.
