  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

AFE Possible For Final 4k Conform on DS?

Hi,

Editing HD on Media Composer Adrenaline HD ver2.8 and testing 4k conform on Nitris DS ver 7.6. We plan to rent or upgrade to DS Nitris v10 for final 4k conform.

We created DNxHD and ALE via REDRUSHES. We're using MONKEY EXTRACT to create DPX via an edl and then conform same edl on DS. Our tests seem accurate. However, we would like to carry effects from offline edit into the 4k (saphire plugs, simple DVE and multiple layers).

Is AFE from Media Composer to DS v10 possible for 4k DPX conform? If so, what is the process? We would like to stay with MONKEY if possible.

V10.1 DS can do a DPX conform from an AFE. I just id that demo yesterday in NY at the Virtual Media sessions. I used Monkey to create the DPX files, then did an "alternate" source on the AFE file for conform. DS documentation should have the steps outlined.

And just announced today, Avid DS v10.1.1 has been released. Now you can do a .r3d conform from the AFE. Metafuze transcode to DNXHD, ALE imported into Media Composer, relink and cut. For online, send your bin to DS via AFE and link or batch capture from the original red files.
