Hey Jim,
I was wondering, from a man that has handled some of the highest quality still cameras, how does the camera in DSLR form feel in your hands? Is it awkward at all? or something you have to get used to? Or does it just feel "right?" I'm just wondering... as a person who only hobbies in still photography, and primarily shoots narratives... is the scarlet enough to fill the hobby need, and still give me that feeling that an SLR does?
Thanks for all the great stuff you guys are doing for us!

Its pretty tough to hold a render. Ask him in a few months.

I was under the impression that they had a prototype or two at least in early stages?

I would imagine they have a rapid prototype system which will let you hold a render. ;D

I'm working on a project for a friend right now to rapid prototype a miniature. I can't wait to hold it in my hands.

Model making and 3D VFX are converging pretty quickly with the new super accurate printers.

Compared to any DSLR these cameras will be heavy and bulky. More like a medium format still camera. They are primarily motion picture cameras after all.

I wouldn't be so sure, David. The camera doesn't have to be fully self-contained within one hand-holdable device. Its functions could be conveniently "distributed," meaning, you may actually end up holding just the actual image acquisition sub-system in your hands (if need be), whereas other sub-systems may reside elsewhere (connected via cabling or wireless links), which would physically unburdening you in one way or another.

Never underestimate the power of technology, let alone when it's been placed at the service of the envelope pushers at RED.

Just sayin'...
