Have a low budget feature coming up, shooting over 3 x 6 day weeks. It is set in the world of "freestyle" basketball. "Freestyle" is a fast moving mix of dance and basketball moves. I would like to shoot on Red, and the post production dept is looking into how it effects the post schedule. My concern is the cmos chip. When I am hand held in amongst the action, will the cmos chip and "skew" give me problems ? If so, how effective are the shutter angles in reducing those issues ? I will have to do some side by side tests with the alternative camera of choice, the varicam.

Also, I will need a small camera for really fast and furious hand held camera work. The scarlet is not around, so what are people finding is the "best" small camera in terms of intercutting with red ?

Get an EX1. It's a great camera and intercuts well. The tonality of the two cameras can be pretty similar. You should test both for CMOS issues, but I doubt it'll be a problem. We could sit here all day guessing about what 10 minutes of shooting will tell you.

I have done a fair amount of crazy, jerky handheld and I haven't noticed much CMOS skewing. I can induce it, sure - but during normal shooting "I" don't notice it.

Only you know what's acceptable to you though.
