Pssh, some cable access dudes have been doing that in my area for years.

That, and these are the same people who would gladly do the videos for free — just for the "exposure."

The very lucky person will get hours and hours of hard work from a young up-and-coming videographer who doesn't know any better than to give away a quality product. But in most cases, you get what you pay for.

How exactly did this cost <$99?? This is very deceptive advertising.

The equipment in the green screen shoot; it was all just loaned? (including the solid lighting equip, gels, and brand new Matthew's C-Stands). Did the loan include the widescreen (presumably high-def monitor). Did it somehow include free permits to shoot in the Washington Square Park area (or is one of them a student at NYU??). They don't seem under pressure here to shoot even though the area is crawling with Police (who usually are strict about filming).

Also, the budget listed at the end does not even include video tape. If that was donated for free cool. And, honestly even the food budget seems pretty small considering: $21 for pizza to feed at least a 6 person crew? So basically one meal was paid in a 12 hour day?

I think it is awesome that a piece can be made for a low budget. But, there is something false about this when I have friends who are pushing their credit cards to the limit to make short pieces. Maybe you could make one this way. But there are realistic minimums (like say $100+ for food for the whole day). The false pretense here seems well "false". Anyone serious about making videos will not be able to get anything on a regular basis without at least feeding people and paying for their own video tape.

For $99, it's pretty much assumed that people are working for less than minimum wage, you are getting donations, you probably aren't paying for permits, etc.

It's a forgone conclusion that you can't pay for permits on $100. You can't pay people anything for $100. You can't even feed them for that.

It's totally possible to make a video for $100. I've done them on less. But you're not going to make more than a couple. The website is a total falsehood, for everything mentioned in posts above and more.

Anybody who's ever made a video knows what's possible when you have no money, a bunch of film friends and spare time...you can make amazing shit. Far more amazing, btw, than what is on that site.
