  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Still changing...

Left eye dominance??? I thought this was a 3D Scarlet?

Why are people calling this left eye dominance ? What side of a Red One is the EVF usually on ? I want a camera where I can have one eye behind the viewfinder and my other eye free to see (ie. not behind the camera). Being a left eyed person, I want to be able to place my viefinder on the right side of the camera. That's someting I can not do easily on a Red One.

This has been asked by a number of people. Any chance we will be able to flip the image in Red One's present EVF ? Please !

As to the new Scarlet/Epic EVF, please please please, make sure, this time round, it is easy to place it on either side of the camera.

Cheers,
Damien

The current display is already 720, so that already kills the 480 benchmark.

13lbs as a max payload for a head may do it for a small scarlet rig, but it won't give you much room to grow.

Scarlet isn't by nature 3d, it is capable of being used in 3d, some of the benefits being the small form factor of the camera and the mini-prime lens.

I think it is pretty safe to assume that with the modularity of the new system that getting the EVF into a left eye position will not be an issue.

Agreed with the viewfinder. Every cameras viewfinder must allow the capacity to be able to quickly toggle between the VF and the subject. Great new design! Now one more for the fire- what changed? Any change on the models we are getting?

I haven't seen any announcements for this type of small display panel in any technology exceeding 480p. Not to say it won't happen, small panels are a fast moving technology. At 480p a small EVF like this would exceed the spatial resolution of 96dpi common for the high quality printing, and individual pixels would not be visible to the eye at less than about 10x magnification.

There are plenty of EVFs out there right now that have nearly a megapixel of resolution, so I dont see 1080 as that far off.

Looks great Jim!

...but much more important, it is a joy to see that you are still working hard on these cameras.
I must admit i was a little scared after reading the "What does this mean" thread.

Keep up the good work!

Antoine

I'm curious, is this mockup really possible? You would at least have to have a battery module on there correct?

I know I am being picky, but I need to keep a good picture of this in my head!

Jay

Looks to me like the battery is in the hand grip on the other side sort of like a Canon SLR. I guess I don't remember it being said, but I always took it for granted in the first mockups that you could either attach a battery module for 3 modules or you slip it into the hand grip.

By the way--YES I WANT!!!

One battery in the handle... or add batteries out the back (or anywhere else you want).

Jim

We haven't stopped at all. We just stopped working people 20 hours a day, seven days a week. Now they only work 16 hours, six days. :)

Jim

:) so.. just 1 or 2 months of delay right?..

Great looking design. I will be ready to buy when you are ready to ship. Still love my Red one though.

Thanks for the update, Jim. Looks absolutely fantastic. I was thinking of waiting for the FF35 Scarlet, but after seeing this, it looks like I am going to have to get both the S35 and FF35! :)

I am so stoked about the dsmc. the mobility of the dsmc PLUS red one capability is going to rock!

There's a good chance that won't impact on delivery at all - may even speed it up. People need breaks - and sleep - to get things right. People can even dream solutions to problems (as did Einstein) but only if they get some sleep!
