  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ok, so I had an amazingly uncomfortable bus ride from Mae Sot to Bangkok tonight so I had lots of time to think.
In no way am I capable of doing the actual technology behind this idea but I wanted to throw it out there.

Lets say you've got a shot where your actor is wired up for a stunt shot. Maybe their flying through the air or maybe they are jumping off a building to the ground. You've got them attached to cables to make the landing or movements smoother and less painful for them.
One of the drawbacks is that often times a certain move or the landing causes the speed of the actor to slow down. For instance if guy is jumping off a building, the landing might be slower than the actual falling.

I know you can compensate for this other ways, but for sake of argument:

Do you think it's feasable to have a plug in device or module (for the newer red designs) that will track a device (such as an accelerometer) on the actor and do automatic ramping in camera to compensate for speed.
You could either preset a speed that it should match the actor to, or have it create an average or pull data from earlier in the shot. All the processing power of the computations could be relegated to the module.

This way you could ensure smooth motion from action or special effects shots right in camera so that when you play them back or check them in post you have exactly the shot you need.

Just an idea, what do you think? Is it feasable? Needed? Wanted even? Crappiest idea ever?

You hardly ever ramp in-shot anymore.

It's better to just shoot it all fast and take the frames you don't need out in post.

I'd be doing that for your wire rig shots.
