Setting up the RED to shoot in 4K 16:9, I am curious if the full frame w/ no frame lines generated is 1.78:1. If so, which I always thought was so, in the frame guide menu, one can then generate 1.78:1 full frame line inside of the inherent full frame, and in addition to that then generate Title Safe frame lines inside of those lines. Basically, I would like to know what aspect ratio is for the full inherent RED 4K 16:9 frame, w/ no frame guides.

Thanks,

Matthew

I have the same question.

Our DP for our feature shot in 4k 16x9, with the 16x9 frame guide area slightly inside the 4k 16x9 sensor area. As a result, our transcoded offline dailies (1080p ProRes SQ) have the occasional bad framing and boom pole, as the area outside the guides were captured by the sensor.

My follow-up question is:

We are doing a Crimson roundtrip, conforming our final sequence in FCP to ProRes HQ QuickTimes (still at 1080p). Using RedCine or RedRushes, what settings do I need to enter in the "Crop" section? The "Scale" function will not work in this case, since we need to "punch-in" on all our dailies to get rid of the "wiggle room". Thanks!

Your answer is in your question. It's 16:9.

And Josh, you may need to shoot a framing chart with a similarly-configured camera to find out.
