Day 1: A Taste of Stereoscopy and Hands On a 3D Rig

You will get a solid overview of what a 3D production entails, experience a 3D film and learn how it was made. This taster session is for people who are interested in 3D but haven't yet decided to start. Learn what it means to shoot and produce in 3D. After the workshop you should have the information you need to confidently answer the question, "Do I want to start a 3D production?"

Day 2: Shooting Good 3D

For those interesting in learning 3D shooting and recording technique. Learn in detail how 3D works and how to shoot good 3D without putting a strain on the viewer's eye. You'll learn how to operate the 3D Rig and how to influence the 3D effect by means of the 3D Rig.

Day 3: Producing a 3D Film From Recording to Displaying

For producers, DPs and camera assistants. Learn the entire workflow from recording through post production and displaying the material -- how 3D works, how good 3D is made and how to operate the 3D Rig. Learn the most important facts that make 3D post production stand out from normal 2D post production.

Workshop Fee

Day 1 $150,
Day 1 and 2 $350,
Day 1,2,3 $700.

THIS is why I hate to be over here in Germany...

I understand. The workshops are being done by Florian Maier, 3D Consult. He is from Germany and does them there also.

His website is www.3d-consult.eu for information or a schedule.

As for the price being charged, we have to cover Florian Maier's cost to present the workshops.

We are expecting more on the first day since this workshop is more of an information/technique workshop while the 2nd and 3rd days will be getting more detailed.

I hope to have the pleasure of seeing/meeting all of you.

Is there a published list of equipment, cameras, and software that will be used for practical demonstrations?

Cheers in advance,

Eric

i think I will just hire a DP who has done 3D.

We are still working out details of the equipment to be used. The P+S Technik 3D Stereto Rig will be the main unit, cameras.... we are working on Sony PMW-EX3's and/or RED cameras.

We will also have the Transvideo HD 3D monitor. No LCD panels but we will be projecting images.

Will the classes cover side by side stereoscopic also?

The workshops are being done by one of the developers of the P+S Technik 3D Stereo Rig so we will have that unit at the workshops, but he is also teaching 3D shooting/production so my belief is that he is really teaching 3D information. Part of the workshop is designed around setting up the P+S Technik rig but I'm sure most if not all of the teaching would pertain to most mirror rigs.

He is also developing a side by side unit, so I'm sure he will discuss side by side 3D acquisition also.

I hope this answers your question.

Yes, thank you. Will this class be given annually? I will not be able to attend this year but hope to go in the future. Thank you for the announcement! :matrix:

This is very neat. Can you let us know when you know which cameras we will be doing this on? Very interesting.

Sure.....

Since Sony was kind enough to provide us with some cameras to use for the Workshops, we will have their PMW-EX3 mounted on the rig. Although you can use various cameras just by changing the camera mounting adapter and reduction rings for the lenses.

We are getting filled up for the LA Workshops but still have availability for Vancouver and New York.

I hope to see you there.
