  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Do the 2/3 fixed and the 2/3 brain do Stills?

I have been reading these forms sense they announced the scarlet and for some reason I got the feeling that 2/3 brain and fixed also were DSMC. But as I been reading in the last couple of days I haven't found anything on these two actually being able to do stills and if they do at what resolution. Hopefully I have missed something...

As far as we know max possible resolution is 3072x1620 pixels, approx. 5MP raw frames at any speed you want from single frame to 120+ fps.

...and unless you're blowing up to portrait size 5 MP should be big enough...correct?

Or am I blowing smoke here?

BTW.

I'm looking forward to Scarlet. (I know...who ISN'T, right?)

I drive a couple of DVXb cams and love em but I'm waiting to see what Scarlet does to the game before going higher res and depth.

I'm hoping I'll be able to use them for event work. *crosses fingers*

sincerely,

ian

5MP is really not going to get you a good 300dpi image of much more than 8X10 in size. So Scarlet will probably be able to take photos, but they're not going to match many current DSLRs in the 10-15MP range.

That low megapixel images is kind of a let down. I am teaching myself vfx and in Scott Billups' book he makes background plates that are 10 megapixels and it allows him plenty of real estate for digital pans in his plates, and he shoots his projects in HD let alone 3k. So I think the stills feature is kind of useless.

That was the maximum resolution in the November brochure, but that spec is missing from the December update. Most likely, however, it hasn't changed, although I wish Red had gone with a 16:9 chip with 3,072 x 1,728 active pixels.

If that "low of a megapixel" bothers you then try a 12MP Red One. Or the 14mp S25 X chip.

Or the 27mp Monstro chip. All part of the new line up. The 3k chip is the new small sensor.
