Hi,

i have a problem regarding Standard Defintion MPEG 2 compression - maybe somebody can help:

I have a Quicktime Video File 720 x 576 pixel 25 fps with AVID Meridien Compressed Codec.

I want to put it on a special CF card player for multimedia installations - the guy making the card player says the MPG (2) files has to have to following specs:

MPEG-II
720x576
25 fps
Bitrate 7008 kbps (CBR!)

Audio
MP2
44.1 kHz
224 kbps

I tried to render my file in compressor (i am mac based) and multiplex the output files (Video and Audio) with MPEG Streamclip - the audio will be played back, but no picture.

I also tried FFMPEGX, but no results.

The guy selling the card player says I should use a encoding software called "SUPER" - only PC based.

I tried but it is quite buggy - and i am mac based.

So, does anybody has a recommendation which software to use on mac?

best wishes,
martin

The best thing to do is contact the people that make the card and ask them to send you some example files that work. It could be a very poorly designed MPEG2 decoder, so you might have to stick with very limited bit rates.

MPEG2 audio and video is usually multiplexed into transport streams, such as m2t files, but it can be done in other ways as well. You'll need to ask the company what type of multiplexing file format the card wants and what bit rate it can accept.

I would suggest looking for a device that supports H.264 mp4 files. There's a lot better chance of getting it to work.

Take a look at the MPEG2 subsection in Compressor called "Transport" and "Program". One of these may of help.

Best of Luck,

Nick.
