This is my second music video shot on RED. Shot in Houston,Tx. Over a crazy weekend. by the way pappadeaux is awesome.

This video turned out to be a victim of a stolen computer (sorry Biglu) so i was forced to do a simple color correction to make the deadline for completion. But thank you Luis I appreciate the time you put into it.

Input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you to Blair Media in Fresno for making it happen. They are great people to work with.

PROFFESSIONAL OPINION NEEDED.

How could this video have been improved. After the fact, i know what i could have done. But what would you guys do to make this better??

(besides reshoot)

shot suggestions. color. lighting.

at first color corections - crushed blacks and lights looks like from miniDV camera

awesome, I f'in shot that

awesome, I f'in shot that

actually I didn't, but my brother did and I can assure you none of the whites were clipped or the blacks were totally crushed, and that we gave the editor a very balanced and solid digital negative. That being said I know what this rapper likes and what the music people demand from these videos. I personally don't like some of the skin tones - especially those going from the side of the house to the night footage. the side of the house skin tones on BERNER could be much better IMO. BUT, besides that I really like the crushed and blown look in certain cases and this is an example of one of those approaches. Coming out of the camera this video looked pretty normal and looked good but not different. this video got graded pretty harshly obviously but it's amazing how much a lot of these artists / rappers like that blown out and super crushed look. It seems really stupid because you want to say that the video should be shot with some camera that has about 4 stops of latitude because that's all the final product has anyway. but this is too normal of a way to look at it. this looks more extreme - you might say in a bad way - but extreme nevertheless and on many of the shots it has a great look.

I think it should be smoothed out more personally. especially skintones - but the rappers and wannabe rappers really like it. (while video techs like the purist in me hate it)

overall, I do like the shot selection and cutting and feel of the urban environment of decay and grit that they got out of Houston.

Plus, Juan is a really nice guy and tries to do the best that he can. we will both admit that the other version that BigLu colored had a better, more professional look but we all know what happened to that version.

we'll put, Justin. I didn't have a final say on the color correction. other than puling back a little on some shots where the color was just way too extreme or crappy in my eyes. Yes i actualy tried. But all your opinions may help me get the message across to the artist.

how do i stress to the artist that the color their seeing as cool to them is way too harsh?

I would have to agree with what everyone else is saying, in that the blacks are way too crushed and it does look more like a mini DV camera or at the very best a HVX200. Plus as far as videos goes it seems like the same old thing. Would be nice to see something a little more inventive come out of this side of the music industry.
