  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Would you like to buy a new Angenieux 30-80 DP?

I just bought this lens, new. Of course, it's under warranty. I has not gone out, it was only tested on the camera. By the way, it looks great. It has no marks, no nothing, it looks completely new. But I found a 12x I want to buy, so I would like to see if someone out there wants this great lens. I could save you a couple of bucks, but not much, since I just got it. But you would not have to wait for it, it's available right now. No shipping if you are local, and I can save you the tax. I am in los angeles.

Did I mention it's a spectacular lens?!

sorry, no. but let me just say it's beautifully sharp. the images just pop. and according to my lens guy, i got a really good sample. since you are local, you are welcome to come by and put it on your camera, test it yourself.

today i went to birns and sawyer and did some comparisons on a sharpness chart with this lens. first we looked at my other zoom, the century 17-35, at about 30, compared to the angenieux at 30, and the angenieux beat the century in sharpness hands down. then we looked at a 32 ultriprime. the angie was as sharp as the ultraprime, the ultraprime had the one stop advantage. we also looked at a 32 cooke s4. boy, those cooks are sweet (on people's faces), but not any sharper than the angie. last but not least, we looked at a masterprime. ok, the masterprime is sharper. noticeably sharper. but what did you expect? yet, i have to say that the angie is as good as the ultraprimes and s4's on a sharpness chart. of course, in a real world shoot, who knows, but it looked great here.

oh, yeah, people keep asking, price? $19,700 through paypal. $19,200 cash or bank transfer. plus shipping and insurance, if you can't pick it up (but i suggest you do, if you can). that is all i can afford to loose.

Angie reps told me there were less markings than the regular optimo ? is it ok though ?

i don't have the 28-76 to compare to, but there are a lot of markings, i don't see what it could be missing.

but i learned something interesting about this lens. the little protrusion in the back that prevents this lens from working on a film camera is not just there to do that, but it actually serves a really good function. apparently, especially on the wide side, the closer the glass is to the imager the better it is for a lens, and the less vignetting (one of the reasons of why leica M lenses are so good), and this is especially so on a digital camera. which explains why this lens is such a good match for the RED camera.

sure, i won't work on a film camera like the more-than-twice-the-price older brother in which this lens is based, but, if you are using it on digital cameras, this is actually better, and for a lot less money.
