I know you guys just loooove it when ungrateful kids come on here and demand the heavens from your humble camera company. I'm sorry. I love Red and work with the R1 every day (DMT #1 in Toronto). I'm buying a Scarlet 2/3" and will love it, too. But if just one thing could be tweaked, I'd die of happiness.

My situation: I just bought an Arri SB with an Angenieux 12-240mm that I'll shoot snowboarding with until the Scarlet 2/3" Cinema drops.

My dream: The physical width of the sensor climbs to 15.1mm so I can shoot full field of view with 16mm glass. Folks can still window the sensor for 2/3" lenses. My dancing feet carry me off into the night.

I also have two questions, both of which may not be answerable at this point in time, which is OK.

1) Will Red offer custom fabrication of exotic lens mounts, i.e. Arri Standard?

2) Would such a glorious accessory as a handcrank ever become a reality?

Again, sorry for seeming oblivious to the incredible technical achievements you have and will make. I am incredibly grateful to you for providing me with the best job of my ife, working with the Red cameras. I'm just a spoiled film brat who doesn't know sh*t.

I believe that RED is planning on providing enough information for third parties to build these. I don't know what the input for the handcrank would be; perhaps genlock?

The standard 16mm film optical image circle is 11mm. The 2/3" format became so popular on broadcast video cameras because it almost exactly matched the 16mm TV projection aperture and early 2/3" vidicon cameras could use the same lenses with no change of FOV. The 12-240 will match up with Scarlet just fine as is. All you will need is the PL mount for Scarlet and a simple conversion adapter for the lens.

Wow, that's great news. l totally forgot about the space taken up by the perfs and soundtrack area of regular 16. Thanks.
