I'm wondering if anyone knows why there is a steel plate inside the battery mount. It seems pointless to me, but it's there so there should be a reason...the strange thing is that it's in all the battery mounts, except the belt clip for some reason. Would be great to remove it to reduce some weight...

I trashed it as well. Now using the AB plate.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Sorry for my ignorance, but what's an AB plate? "Anton Bauer" plate? How is that different from the Red plate? Do you happen to have a picture or a link?

Likewise, switched mine out for the aluminum ET plate. There was one piece of plastic inside that was obstructing the new plate... glued and difficult to pry out, but a pair of needlenose pliers did the trick. The speedyclamp is great, and the weight is substantially lighter (big benefit for using handheld).

Thats the Magnet that Gives you the Battery Counter, The new ET Plates come with one attached in the same area.

Anton Bauer.

I prefer their mounting system to the V.

Check their website.

thanks for your great answers guys!

While I'm saving up for the ET Battery Interface/SpeedyClamp combo I'll go ahead and remove the steel plates inside the Red battery mounts...

Cheers,
Olle

Hi, Olle
save your money if you just want to reduce some weight. The steel plate is just a shim. If you remove it then assemble back the battery plate ,you may break the screw holes. So you need to make a shim as same as the steel plate in other ligther stuff, like pasteboard. I have installed a pasteboard in my RED battery plate.
