Been shooting 2:1 on a larger project since March, as well as a number of commercials. It has served me well without fail. I avoided 16:9 in earlier builds due to the problems and have stuck with 2:1 since. About to start another larger project. Want to go 16:9, but still worried about potential problems especially after reading about occasional audio problems in 16:9.

I've done a number of camera tests and all have worked well, but things are often a different beast once out in the filed.

Calling all 16:9'ers - what has your experience been? :shiftyph34r:

Cheers,
Dale

Dale, if you are using Red Drive or Red RAM and you are on Build 16 and up, no problems.

Same situation as you Dale, until the very last shoot I did.

Shot 16:9, 4K and 3K (in Build 16), absolutely no problems, camera or post. Was more than a little relieved to get the all clear from editorial, I can tell you!

Seems like a safe bet these days, happy shooting...
Dom.

16x9 build 17 with Raid Drives has given me no problems full feature lenght movie
2 cameras half of the movie.

16x9, HD and 2to1 all work very nicely so far in 4K with RAID DRIVES.
shooting and post.

I have been wondering about this subject as well, if we are using a fcp color workflow, what are the major differences between 2:1 and 16:9

can anyone please tell me the major shooting and editorial differences between 2:1 and 16:9

Alex:

Back when the first cameras started coming out, only 2:1 mode was enabled. Even after 16:9 became a possibility, there were a few post issues (audio was a problem, iirc, and RedCine didn´t like 16:9 material - there may have been other issues as well, as I said, I didn´t shoot it, so I´m no expert on what those pitfalls were, I´m afraid!).

They all seem to be fully ironed out as of two builds ago (16 release is fine for 16:9), but those of us who have remained shooting 2:1 for whatever reason (most of my projects are 2.40:1, for instance) may still have "the fear" about 16:9 - but don´t worry, it´s just us being overly cautious (as we should be...).

As far as camera limitations go, the only thing you´ll find is that you lose some of the faster framerate/lower compression options in the various modes - there´s a table of what framerate/resolution/compression modes are available for each ratio in the Op Manual...

Cheers,
Dom.

Thank you Dominic for the answer, the reason why I am so concerned is because I am shooting something that the final delivery is 1080P
so I dont know what would be fcp/color workflow friendly, 2:1 or 16:9?
what do you recommend Dominic?
