Yeesh, it's still a bit steep for me. But this is still a good bargain for those that can afford it, especially since Sony is the only game in town for 4K projectors at the moment. Although, I wouldn't think about using one of these for a home theatre setup, last time I saw one of these at NAB they were huge. ;)

JVC has a 4K projector too. I personally have not seen it in action to compare, but I've heard it's pretty good. Still expensive.

I am on pretty much the same page as Jeff. Lamps, lenses, silicon, housings, power supplies and the other nuts and bolts of projector manufacture do not justify the kinds of retail pricing we are seeing for 4K vs 2K/1080. If there was sufficient demand and enough players to create genuine competition 4K projection in the sub 1000 lumen space should not exceed $10K. The bigger guns will cost more just like they do now but the delta between 2K and 4K we are seeing today will narrow over time.

The DI and private screening market does not require the brute force of the current offerings. I am very interested in seeing a demo of the JVC solution as their RS2 DILA units are the best sub $10K projectors I have seen to date and I prefer the look to the overly "snappy" rendition of most of the TI chip DLP units.

100% with Blair here.

We have the JVC RS2 running off of Scratch w/CineSpace for LUTs - we tested a fair amount of solutions -the JVC RS2 kicks serious ass for the price.
