Hi All,

Thought I would share with everyone what we've been up to. Our in house machinist Adolph Esposito created this bracket to make use of our Arri hand held rig. Its the first, he'll be making another with a few tweaks.

Enjoy!

Yeah, but boy does it look front heavy.

agreed. a reddrive or redram would help counterbalance, but if using the belt clip and cf card you won't get much help.

otherwise looks slick though. Who's handles are those?

The handles are the Arri S-4 handgrip system. Originally designed for their film camewras. SIM uses them for their RED handheld setup. WWe use them in our setup for the Phantom. The top plate of the handgrip is a short dovetail that mounts right into a bridgeplate.

Casey, can we see it built up with a real world configuration? Battery, a drive, maybe even a mattebox for fun.

Sure thing. Its actually out on a job for a few weeks. I'll see if we can go out and get some shots while its in use.

You got a point. My personal favorite is still the film tools shoulder pad. Keeps it low and I can place camera anywhere for balance. And it's 50.00. I just find all (but LU's) new shoulder solutions too high for my taste. I'm from the Aaton school of lower is better for hand-held. I even go as far as to undersling my batteries on the bottom rods to get the CG even lower and counter balance.

I think with RED, hand-held was definitely an after thought.

BTW those Arri Grips are so strong that I once dropped a camera from a bungee rig 60 feet up and the grips were used as two of the three mounting points. Unbelievable build.

Hey Tim, just to point out the "filmtools shoulder pad" is actually a Camera Comfort Cushion and we sell it as well.

Good to know. That would've saved me a little hassle. Next time. My buddy is the A op on law and order and recommended it to me as they all use them with Genesis. Really works.
