Hi,

I'm working on a red project for the first time with my macbook pro, using OSX and Final Cut Studio 2.

When I try to open the red quicktime proxies in Quicktime or Final Cut Pro I can hear the audio but the image is simply black.

I have installed the REDCODE plugin. When I go into my Library/Quicktime folder I can see the REDCODE.QT.component.

Interestingly, I am able to import the quicktime proxies into After Effects CS3 and can view the footage there, however the right most quarter of the image is reduced in opacity, sort of like a white box set at 50% opacity is on top of the image, so I can't export a usable video image from After Effects.

I know the footage is fine because the director has viewed the footage on his mac and it all looks fine...I'm baffled!

A sort of related issue is that I have also installed the "RED Final Cut Studio 2 Installer" but when I go into the "preferences" menu in the log and transfer tool there is no "RED digital cinema REDCODE" option as indicated in the "Red FCS studio whitepaper". So I can't even export ProRes 422 versions of the movies to work with while I try to sort out this other problem.

Any help with these issues would be greatly appreciated since I'm on a deadline with this project.

Thanks so much.

same here

same here

One of my clients is having the same problem.
I've never used the labtop for editing my own RED projects, so I can't really give him an answer why.

As I read through the new posts here, some of us have the similar problems.
Might the recent version of QT cause this problems?

On my MAC desktop, which I am using FCP 6.0.4, I have no problems working on either proxy or L & T.

Could somebody help both of us on this matter?

Luki HELP!!!!!!!

You have to install the FCP update. FCS installer only works with FCP 6.0.5, so get the FCP and Color updated.

I am using FCP 6.0.5, color 1.0.4 and quicktime 7.5.5. So I don't think it's a version problem with me.

Thanks though. Any other ideas?

Jason,

As far as the "RED digital cinema REDCODE" not showing up in the L&T preference, it is actually listed as "Native". I guess you don't see that either.

Maybe you can go from the basics to see what works (in the end everything should work).

Why don't you download everything latest from RED.com, including REDCODE 3.5, REDCINE and REDAlart!, see if they work fine, then install FCS2 installer.

That's a bug introduced recently.
Try this: Open the clip in REDAlert, change the settings to default. You should see the image again. Make new Quicktimes.

Hope this helps.

Uli,

Is the issue coming from the implementation of the RSX?

Looks like it's fimware 17. I'll try to downgrade when I find the time.

Thanks for the help everyone. I actually just managed to find a decent solution to the issue. The solution was to create a new user admin account in osx and log in to that. The QT proxies were viewable in both Quicktime and FCP right away, and the log and transfer function in FCP worked exactly as it should. So I guess there's something corrupt or conflicting in the way my original user account is set up. Too bad the files still don't work in my original account.

Does anybody have any new ideas as to why it wouldn't work in my main account given this new info? I wouldn't mind still trying to fix it in my original account, because if something in the background is causing an issue like this it might be responsible for other issues and I wouldn't mind taking care of it if I can.

Thanks again,
Jason.

Macs are slightly susceptible to having their user files corrupt and cause grand malfunctions. I have had to drop accounts twice. Once for me and once for a friend.

Just be glad you got it figured out

It went away for me when I downgraded to build 16.
