Hello.. how about a little petition for us RED one lovers who want 4.5K soon :)

ps: after reading some responses, i realized typed words can be read in so many ways.. that i better refraze it correcly: imagine me saying it with a smile of anticipation guys, not with a face of disgust . i loove my RED! Im just excited about 4.5k.. i never liked waiting for midnight on xmas eve hehehe

So by petition i mean, who else is with me in needing some news and a date of release for 4.5k.. buaaah.. i wana i wana i wana..

Amongst all the stuff Red is doing right now I'd say this is quite far at the bottom of there to-do list. You can get as many signatures as you can, but they have alot on their plate. I'm not being mean, I'm just saying that what your asking for is a bit hard for a company that has only just made 5k alive, and yet they to make it to 28k in under 2 years time.

In my opinion your better off waiting for epic x.

Good luck Red Team.

4.5k gives about a 20% instant performance increase (in that sensor surface area is 20% larger, than 4k, at 2.30:1.
That's not to be sneezed at if you're shooting for a theatrical release, and maybe worth sacrificing the look-around area in the viewfinder, for some kinds of shots especially.
Anyone shooting for theatrical release right now could be forgiven for feeling disappointed that 4.5k has been promised, for months, and now is off the agenda, it seems.
I'll sign the petition.

Perhaps you should phrase this a "request" instead of a petition.

specifically: "He never once complained about "what RED couldn't do". He always made work what he could do with any given version of RED. If I tell him that we just enabled something, he'll respond with something like "well that will be nice. I could use that." Steven has never once asked us for any special treatment... only pushing us along by believing in us. Amazing what a powerful technique that is.

Sometimes on this board we get so carried away with every spec, feature or wish that we paralyze ourselves with actually doing something. I have learned a lot from Steven. Not just about cameras and shooting, but about living. "We have what we have and that is plenty enough (for today) to do something meaningful. If you give me more, I'll do more. But I have enough now." I just love his philosophy."

Jannard about Soderbergh

the reason a petition is silly is because RED already knows we want 4.5k, they're working on it. Starting a petition would not only be ineffective, but rather rude.

I presume "petition" was another way of saying "request".
It's not a case of dissatisfaction, of having an inferior attitude to Steven Soderbergh
The reason for people wondering about where 4.5k, is that it was mentioned coming soon, months ago, by Jim himself. And so people are expecting it.

you might want to try to find that quote. I believe he announced that they were going to implement it in a future build, but I don't think they said which build or how "soon" it might be available.

EDIT: alright, I take this back. Jannard did actually say that the RED ONE would be able to shoot 4.5k 2.40:1 "very soon" in this thread: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=15745&highlight=4.5k

That said, I also found probably 10 other threads of people asking when it would come out and Jannard responding that they're working on it.

They are working on it... Jim and others at RED have said so.

"Soon" is in the eye of the beholder. ...All things subject to change, count on it. Move along folks, nothing to see here.

Well you can look it that way but I didnt miss his NOW at the end which kinda made it look like a demand rather than a request. Anyways the mods right lets move on!

Happy shooting people.

I just re-calculated it... We're talking about a 26% performance increase!!!!!!!
Surface area of 4.5k is 126% of 4k 2.40:1
That makes it, for theatrical release, more significant than RC28/36 comparisons, and maybe ISO250 vs 320 debates and possibly some tungsten/gelling issues.

Amazes me that so few people give a hoot, and knock it down whenever it's mentioned. Seeing as there hasn't been a technical reason offered for it not being offered, it seems worth enquiring about to me.

But anyway, let's move onto more important things... like hats or something.

If I recall, RED One 4.5K was said to be something like 4480 pixels wide and not the full 4520. That makes it roughly 4480x1866. And that's less pixels/frame than 4K 16:9.

I may be wrong, though... Or things may have changed...

If I recall, RED One 4.5K was 4480x1866

That would be correct. Yes 4.5K is still on our to do list, however at the moment we are investigating some issues such as HDMI compatibility (hence Brent's comment)

More later ...
